During my 23 years of veterinary practice, I have cared for thousands of pets, and the vast majority are overweight or obese. It is rare that I see a patient that does not need to lose weight. Overweight and obese pets are at increased risk of serious medical conditions such as osteoarthritis, cardiac and respiratory problems, kidney and other urogenital problems, liver disease, endocrine disorders, are more prone to cancer, orthopedic injuries, and have a reduced quality of life, and shorter lifespan.
